1A FADE IN: INT. HOUSE - NIGHT

A group of people party in a medium-size house. The guests are all in their mid-twenties, and most are already fairly drunk, or stoned, or whatever. DOLE CARSEN (mid twenties) thin, young, caucasian and handsome, sits at a table. Four other people sit around him. All five are playing liar's dice. They go through the motions. Dole's twin brother, DONOVAN CARSEN, comes up behind him. Donovan is a little stronger than Dole, with shorter hair and a goatee. Donovan grabs Dole's shoulders.

DONOVAN

You're done bro. Come chat with me.

Dole looks up at Donovan.

DOLE

Okay. I'm out guys.

A girl sitting at the table, MARISSA WALKER (mid-twenties), beautiful and sexy with short black hair, looks at Donovan.

MARISSA

Mr. Man. Your brother was havin' fun here Donovan.

DONOVAN

He'll be back.

Dole stands up. Donovan and Dole walk to the corner of the kitchen.

DONOVAN

Can you go pick up some more beer bro? We're dust and I'm pretty sure more people have yet to show up.

DOLE

Are you kidding? Why can't you go?

DONOVAN

Terri's here. I gotta' keep the peace. Make sure nothin' gets broken.

DOLE

And Spencer? Off gettin' laid somewhere I suppose. Can't be bothered.

DONOVAN

Somethin' like that. C'mon Dole, is it that big a deal?

DOLE

I guess not. Just a deal really. All right. Give me money, tell me what to get.

Donovan hands Dole a twenty.

DONOVAN

As much as you can. Bottles. Nothin' cheap. Nothin' too expensive. You know good beer man.

DOLE

Is that supposed to be advice?

DONOVAN

I've been drinking. Give me a break. Just help us out o.k.?

DOLE

Help us out. Right.

Dole looks at the money and walks out the front door.

1B CUT TO: INT. HOUSE - NIGHT

Dole walks in the front door holding a brown paper bag. Beer bottles clank as he walks to the kitchen. The party is still lively. He loads bottles into the fridge. Dole looks to his left to see Donovan helping a very drunk Marissa into Donovan's bedroom.

1C CUT TO: INT. BEDROOM - NIGHT

Donovan lays Marissa down on his crumpled bed. She turns into the covers and moans.

DONOVAN

Sleep tight Marissa. Don't puke on my bed, okay?

Donovan walks out. Camera pans in on Marissa, passed out.

1D CUT TO: INT. KITCHEN - NIGHT

Donovan walks up to Dole.

DONOVAN

The man. The big man. Well done bro.

DOLE

Well done? Thanks for noticing.

DONOVAN

Of course I notice. You're the big man.

DOLE

Is Marissa passed out?

DONOVAN

Like watching Reds as a kid. Get back to your game. Hang out, have fun.

SPENCER HUGHES (mid-twenties) a handsome, well-built black guy grabs Donovan around the neck.

SPENCER

That girl Jenny? You gotta' invite her out more often. She likes the ride.

DONOVAN

You've been with Jenny? Bastard.

SPENCER

Dole? Any luck tonight?

DOLE

Is there ever?

Dole looks to the living room. RUSS FRENCH (mid-twenties) a brooding, thin, dark-haired guy stands near Donovan's bedroom door. He sips a Moosehead.

SPENCER

Man are you hard on yourself. Mr. Artist that can't seem to kick up his self esteem. She's out there, you just don't know how to find her.

CUT TO: Russ looks to Donovan's bedroom. He steps in and closes the door behind him. Dole watches as Russ enters the room. TERRI SPARROW (mid-twenties), a beautiful brunette, grabs Donovan's butt.

TERRI

Enough with the boys. I'm in need, can't you see that?

DOLE

Donovan...

SPENCER

Terri, it's alright for him to hang out, you know. Woman, woman, woman, just makes us guys freak the fuck. Run like hell for the border.

DOLE

Donovan...

TERRI

Come on, Don. I'll make it worth your while.

Donovan looks at Dole.

DONOVAN

Wait. What's goin' on Dole?

DOLE

Some guy just went into your room, where Marissa's passed out. I don't know... I think he's gonna' try something.

Donovan looks at Spencer.

DONOVAN

Spence?

SPENCER

Yeah, right. Not in this fuckin' house.

Donovan and Spencer walk to the bedroom, with Dole trailing just behind. Donovan tries the door. It's locked.

DONOVAN

Well what the fuck.

Donovan kicks the door in. Russ holds Marissa's pants. Her underpants are still on. Russ wears black silk boxers.

DONOVAN

Big mistake my friend.

Donovan punches Russ full force in the face. Russ drops Marissa's pants. Spencer kicks Russ, and Donovan and Spencer pound him into mud.

DONOVAN

Grab him Spence, let's get him the fuck outta' here.

Donovan and Spencer drag Russ out into the front of the house. They drag him out to the street.

1E EXT. STREET - NIGHT

DONOVAN

Dole, I have an idea. Go make us a sign that says "I tried to rape a girl tonight." Make it flashy. And grab some rope, bottom kitchen drawer.

Dole stands for a moment before going inside. Donovan and Spencer throw Russ to the ground. They kick and punch him continuously before Dole comes back out with the sign and rope. Donovan grabs the rope and ties Russ to a light pole next to the sidewalk. He puts the sign in front of Russ, who is beaten, bloody and unconscious.

DONOVAN

Okay Mr. fuckhead, whoever you are. Crash our party to rape a passed out girl? A friend of ours? You want us to call the cops? Tell on you? That'd make you happy, huh? Well, maybe we'll give out our own punishment. On our own terms. Make you an example. Spencer, I know that beer's been flowin' to your bladder all night long. You mind?

SPENCER

Can't imagine a better toilet.

Spencer unzips his fly.

FADE TO: TITLE SEQUENCE: THE VIGILANTE MEMOIRS

2 FADE IN: INT. LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

Donovan and Spencer sit facing eachother in Donovan and Dole's living room.

DONOVAN

You were extremely creative last night, my friend. Spence I feel somethin' comin' here. Like this is a spark.

SPENCER

I feel it too partner. I wanna' do it again. I don't wanna' wait 'til he comes to us.

Dole walks in carrying a beer. He sips it.

DONOVAN

Dole, go get your notebook bro.

DOLE

What for?

DONOVAN

We need to have a plan. We want to do it again. Help someone out. Go get your notebook man.

Dole walks back into his room.

DONOVAN

Where do we find the next one? Any thoughts?

SPENCER

I had one, yeah. This girl I know, Lisa, beautiful thing, bubbly girl, was molested from eighty-two to eighty- four. Uncle happy dick her and a sister were lucky enough to be related to. She confides in me, see. We hit it off. Her family swept all the shit under the carpet. I've been thinkin' about it since she told me.

DONOVAN

There we go. Any info on him?

SPENCER

She told me awhile ago. I'll see her again, find out what I can.

Dole walks into the living room holding a white lined notebook.

DONOVAN

Sit down bro. Write somethin' on the cover of that for me. Write "Vigilante Memoirs" across the top. Inside write down what happened last night. Then write that we're moving on to another one. Soon as we get more info, write more. I wanna' fill that thing.'

DOLE

What did I miss?

DONOVAN

We're gonna' be a part of somethin', dear brother. Aside from Pete's now we've got a new job. No pay, but we're sure gonna' be makin' a difference. I'm tired of not bro.

SPENCER

We could print up some business cards.

DONOVAN

First things first. Talk to Lisa.

3 CUT TO: INT. BEDROOM - DAY

LISA BURR (mid 20s), a beautiful brunette, falls breathing heavily on Spencer. They've just finished having sex on Lisa's floral designed bed. Both are under the blankets.

LISA

Wow. Another great visit.

SPENCER

You're tellin' me.

They kiss.

SPENCER

You got a little weed?

LISA

Sure.

Lisa opens the top drawer of her dresser and pulls out a small Altoids container. She fills a glass pipe with the green pot from inside the container. She lights the pipe and hands it to Spencer.

SPENCER

Thanks baby.

Spencer takes a hit.

SPENCER

Hey Lis? Indulge me for a sec huh?

LISA

In what way?

Lisa takes a hit.

SPENCER

The uncle you were tellin' me about. What's his name again?

LISA

Walter. Same last name, Burr. I really don't wanna' talk about this right now Spencer.

SPENCER

Sorry, I was just thinkin' about it the other day. Thinkin' how fucked up it is he's still invited to Thankgivin' and all that. He lives close too, huh?

LISA

Yeah, in Belmont. Can we please drop this?

spencer

You bet.

Spencer blows out smoke.

SPENCER

Thanks for the smoke baby.

LISA

It's gonna' cost you. I wanna' come again.

SPENCER

Well, I'll do what I can.

Spencer crawls under the covers.

4A CUT TO: INT. KITCHEN - NIGHT

Dole and Terri stand in the kitchen in Donovan and Dole's house. Dole drinks a Red Hook. Terri drinks white wine.

TERRI

I mean, I know you guys have your thing. Boys always do. Donovan just seems distant sometimes and I can't help thinkin' about his ex-girlfriend and if she's always gonna' be on his mind and if I ever really have a chance of getting close.

DOLE

I don't know what to say Terri. I mean I won't lie and say he's not a little messed up because of what happened. But he's just the greatest, strongest guy in the world. He always beat up the bullies while I cowared by the jungle gym. He always spoke up, talked back. Give him some time, he's really into you, but he's a hard nut to crack.

TERRI

I know. You're right.

Terri looks at Donovan as he talks to Spencer in the living room.

TERRI

He sure is a looker too, isn't he?

Donovan looks to the kitchen. He and Spencer both also drink Red Hook.

DONOVAN

Dole. Come here a sec, huh? Bring your notebook.

Dole smiles at Terri.

TERRI

Can I use your computer to check my e-mails?

DOLE

Of course.

4B INT. LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

Dole walks into the living room carrying his notebook and pen.

DONOVAN

So? Out with it.

SPENCER

Well, her uncle's name is Walter Burr, an' he lives in Belmont. That's about all I got.

DONOVAN

It's somethin' though. Dole, write that down.

Dole writes in his notebook the name Walter Burr and lives in Belmont.

SPENCER

I figure we can find him. Phone book probably. Belmont 'aint exactly New York City. Can't be too many Walter Burrs, right?

DONOVAN

So we use a phone book. Bro?

Dole walks into the kitchen and opens a drawer. He walks the phone book back into the living room.

DONOVAN

Here...

Dole hands Donovan the phone book. Donovan flips through the white pages. He stops on Burr, W.

DONOVAN

Burr, W. Belmont. 555-2316

SPENCER

Could be Wanda, William, Winston...

Donovan grabs the portable phone from the small coffee table in front of him. He dials. The phone rings. A tired, grumbly voice answers.

VOICE

Yes...

DONOVAN

Walter?

WALTER

Yeah? Hello?

DONOVAN

Sorry, wrong number.

Donovan hangs up.

DONOVAN

Walter Burr, Belmont.

SPENCER

We need an address.

DONOVAN

It's here in the book. 177 Winter Street. We can get a map off the web.

SPENCER

So let's go.

DOLE

Now? Wait, hold on you two. Shouldn't we play this smart? I mean, this isn't exactly legal, what you two are thinkin' about.

SPENCER

So what? Motherfucker raped a coupla' kids! Motherfucker's free game, far as I'm concerned.

DOLE

There's still a chance we could...

DONOVAN

We'll scope him out. Go to his house. We don't know shit about him. All around bro, I'm with Spence. This guy's gettin' his due. But we need to know what he's all about, if he lives alone, what he's like. Let's go there tomorrow.

SPENCER

I got an idea you two. How we can knock on his door and see him up close.

5A CUT TO: EXT. HOUSE - DAY

Donovan stands in the archway of a typical suburban home. He wears a short-sleeve white-collared shirt, a black tie, and carries a black briefcase. In his left hand is a pamphlet with "The Church of Jesus Christ, Later Day Saints" across the top. He rings the doorbell.

5B CUT TO: INT. CAR - DAY

Dole and Spencer sit in Spencer's Buick, parked kitty corner from Walter's house.

SPENCER

Dole, you can draw this can't you? This scene, the house, street names, shit like that.

DOLE

Yeah. I can try.

Dole opens the notebook and starts to sketch.

SPENCER

This guy might not even be home.

5C CUT TO: EXT. HOUSE - DAY

Donovan rings the doorbell again. WALTER BURR (mid 40s) opens the door. He is grungy, unshaved and overweight. His brown hair is tusseled and messy. His thick glasses are slightly crooked. Walter chews a mouthful of tobacco.

WALTER

Is this some Mormon shit? If you're gonna' start blabbin' about God, you might as well just save it for some Mexican momma with seven kids. Or are you selling something? I'm not interested in that either, and I'd just go ahead an' tell you to fuck off.

DONOVAN

Wow. You really are messed up aren't you. I think your brain's been all scrambled and fucked with or something. I was gonna' you know, tell you about Jesus, but I think you're beyond redemption.

Walter spits tobacco on Donovan's shoe. He slams the door closed. The door lock clicks.

5D CUT TO: INT. CAR - DAY

SPENCER

Motherfucker just spit on Donovan.

Donovan gets in the car.

DONOVAN

Oh yeah he's next. Without a doubt. You see him spit on my shoe? The guy's demon shit just waitin' to get flushed.

Spencer starts the car and drives off.

6 CUT TO: INT. HOUSE - DAY

Donovan, still dressed in his Mormon outfit, Dole, and Spencer walk into Donovan and Dole's house.

DONOVAN

I have to go get these shoes polished.

DOLE

He's that bad huh?

DONOVAN

As they come. You don't expect guys to look like you picture 'e,m, but this guy, through and through looked like God's joke on the good people of the world.

DOLE

So what do we do?

DONOVAN

You just keep that notebook with you and write all this stuff down. Use that artistic mind of yours. Add some detail. Spence, any ideas on some punishment for Mr. Walter Burr?

SPENCER

How 'bout bendin' him over an' rammin' a red-hot poker up his ass?

DOLE

Whoa, wait. You guys are on your own with that one.

DONOVAN

Hey, that isn't such a bad idea.

SPENCER

Yeah it 'aint. Punishment fits the crime, right?

DOLE

Honestly you guys, it's a little gross.

SPENCER

Motherfucker raped a little kid Dole! You wanna' play nice, maybe slap him with a white cloth glove, some shit like that?

DOLE

No, I mean, I know he deserves it...

DONOVAN

Don't worry Dole, I'm not lookin' up that cracker's ass either. I just started thinkin', back in high school a coupla' guys we knew branded their shoulders with some bent-up coat hangers. Held 'em over a fire, pictures of a happy face I think. I saw one of 'em a coupla' days ago and he still had the face. Eight years later.

SPENCER

I follow you man. But we don't use no goddamn happy face.

DONOVAN

Not at all. Dole, you think you could make something out of metal? I'm thinking the words "child molester".

DOLE

I'm no welder but I could probably come up with somethin'.

SPENCER

We need it fast, Dole. I don't wanna' wait too long to go after this fucker. I'm anxious enough as it is.

DONOVAN

No, you're right Spence. I'm anxious too. Especially after meeting the guy. Today's Tuesday. I say we give it a day and head over there around dawn on Thursday. Maybe about two a.m.

SPENCER

Thursday night.

DONOVAN

Right.

SPENCER

So it would be dawn on Friday.

DONOVAN

Yeah, dawn on Friday. That enough time for you Dole?

DOLE

I think so.

DONOVAN

Good. You work on that an' me and Spence'll figure our details about getting in and out.

SPENCER

I say this brand 'aint all he gets. Guy deserves a kitchen sink to the head to boot.

DONOVAN

Well, maybe we pound him 'til he's out cold. Gives us some time to light a fire and get the brand scalding.

SPENCER

Boy do I like what's happening here. You two wanna' get stoned or somethin'?

DOLE

Sure.

DONOVAN

We deserve it. Dole, order a pizza too, huh?

DOLE

Yeah, okay.

7 DISSOLVE TO: M.O.S.

Shots of Dole sketching and bending metal, Donovan and Spencer picking black clothes out of their closets fade together. A joint burns slowly.

8 DISSOLVE TO: INT. HOUSE - NIGHT

Spencer and Donovan sit in Donovan and Dole's apartment.

DONOVAN

Dole, we gotta' be rolling bro.

Dole walks out of his bedroom holding the brand. It has bent metal letters that read "child molester." It is suspended by a long piece of metal with black electrical tape wrapped around the end. Dole hands it to Donovan who studies it. He smiles.

DONOVAN

Perfection. You rock bro.

He hugs Dole.

SPENCER

Nice work Dole. Definitely top notch. Now, can we hit the road and get to it? I'm gettin' butterflies.

9A CUT TO: INT. CAR - NIGHT

Spencer drives with Donovan in the passenger seat and Dole in the back. All three wear black.

DONOVAN

Whether you like it or not Spence, I'm goin' in first. You're second and Dole can pick up the rear. We don't find an open window we'll have to knock an' then break the door down when he peeks. Hit him hard and fast an' don't stop 'til he's not moving.

9B EXT. STREET - NIGHT

The car pulls up and just across the street from Walter's house. House's lights are all off nearby and the street is quiet and empty.

9C INT. CAR - NIGHT

Donovan, Spencer and Dole stare at Walter's house. Donovan looks back at Dole. Spencer and Donovan put on black gloves.

DONOVAN

Look clear to everyone?

Dole stares through the rear windshield.

DOLE

I think so.

Donovan throws Dole a ski mask. He hands one to Spencer. Donovan and Spencer put theirs on immediately. Dole looks at his before putting it on.

SPENCER

Shall we?

DONOVAN

Dole, get the brand.

Dole picks up the metal brand from the car floor.

9D EXT. STREET - NIGHT

All three walk to the house's left side. They crouch beneath a window just above them on the right. Donovan pushes on it quietly. It doesn't budge. They quickly step to the next window on the right. Donovan pushes on it and it cracks open. He looks at Spencer and Dole.

9E INT. HOUSE - NIGHT

Donovan climbs in through the window. The room is dark and cluttered. Storage mostly, boxes; if it wasn't so dark you could see the cockroaches. There is a small made bed against the wall and a sliding brown closet door on the left. Spencer and Dole hop their way into the room. They look around. Donovan leads and quietly walks out the room door and into the hallway.

The hallway's walls are bare and stained. A messy bathroom is at the end of the hall and a closed door is on the left just next to it. An open sliding door that leads to a dirty kitchen is at the other end of the hall.

Donovan points to the closed door. Spencer nods. They walk to it. Donovan slowly pushes it open. On a large bed in the middle of the cluttered room Walter sleeps, snoring loudly. They stare at him for a moment. Donovan and Spencer look at eachother. Spencer rips Walter up out of bed. Walter awakes, startled. He sees Spencer and shows immediate fear. Donovan punches him hard in the face, knocking him out. Walter falls flat to the ground.

SPENCER

He's out. That wasn't too tough.

DONOVAN

I gave him a good one. Dole why don't you go find the fireplace. Get a fire goin'.

Donovan spits on Walter.

9F CUT TO:  INT. LIVING ROOM

The brand is starting to smoke as Dole holds the tip in the fire. Donovan and Spencer drag Walter in. They lay him on the ground.

SPENCER

Where do we start?

Donovan looks at Walter in his white boxer shorts. His skin pale and blotchy.

DONOVAN

How 'bout his chest. Dole.

Dole looks at Donovan.

DOLE

You want me to...

Donovan looks at Dole.

DONOVAN

You want me to do it? I'd be happy to.

SPENCER

I was kinda' thinkin' we'd all get a go.

DONOVAN

Yes. And you're first bro.

Dole looks at Walter. He walks towards him.

10A CUT TO: INT. CAR (MOVING) - NIGHT

Spencer drives with Dole in the back and Donovan shot-gun.

DOLE

He didn't look too good. You think he just freaked out, like went into shock?

DONOVAN

He went chicken fuck crazy Dole.

SPENCER

How many we end up givin' him? I stopped counting.

DOLE

Twelve.

DONOVAN

It wasn't the brand. His mind was already messed, we just opened the flood gates.

DOLE

Should we call the cops?

SPENCER

Are you kiddin'?

DOLE

No, I mean like anonymously. From a pay phone or somethin'.

SPENCER

And tell 'em what Dole? That we broke into this guy's house and branded him until he went crazy and hit his head on the tub? You don't think it'd be safer just to leave it alone?

DOLE

But if he dies and we get caught, I mean, hopefully we won't...

DONOVAN

We're not getting caught.

DOLE

Right, but if he lives it's a lesser charge right?

DONOVAN

He's gotta' point Spence. They find a dead body at that house there may be a little more heat.

SPENCER

Fine. But get on and off Dole and we're outta' here.

DOLE

You want me to call?

Spencer looks at Dole.

DOLE

Okay, I'll call.

Spencer pulls over. Dole gets out of the car.

10B EXT. PHONE BOOTH - MORNING

Dole gets out and walks to the phone booth. The street is empty early in the morning. A few cars speed by. Dole picks up the receiver and exhales. He dials 911.

OPERATOR

Nine one one emergency.

Across the street, a couple argues outside an apartment building.

DOLE

Yes, I'm not sure this is an emergency, but a, this morning I heard a crash in my neighbor's house.

The couple's argument is getting more heated.

10C INT. CAR

Spencer and Donovan are watching the action across the street.

SPENCER

This is getting good.

10D EXT. PHONE BOOTH

DOLE

My address? Right, ofcourse.

Across the street, PAUL PARKER (mid 20s) and DENISE BROWN (mid 20s) still argue. Paul explodes and punches Denise full force in the face. She falls unconscious to the ground. Spencer's Buick screeches across the street right in front of Paul.

OPERATOR

Please stay with me sir...

Dole hangs up. He stares across the street. Spencer and Donovan quickly get out of the car and rush Paul. They pummel him. Paul attempts fighting back but is overwhelmed. Dole walks across the street, scoping left and right for cars.

Paul falls unconscious to the ground. Spencer gives him a few more kicks to the back.

DONOVAN

Dole, Dole did you see that?

DOLE

He hit her.

Dole looks down at Denise, her nose and mouth smeared with blood.

DOLE

What now?

SPENCER

I 'aint done with this fucker. Let's dump him in the trunk.

DOLE

What about her?

DONOVAN

She can sit with you in the back seat.

SPENCER

Wait, we're gonna' bring her too?

DONOVAN

You suppose we should leave her here? We're doing this for her, we gotta' make sure she's alright.

SPENCER

Good point. You're right. Let's hurry up with it, this street 'aint gonna' be bare forever.

10E CUT TO: INT. CAR (MOVING) - DAY

Dole looks at Denise, still passed out.

DOLE

She's been out a while. Maybe we should take her to a hospital.

DONOVAN

I think she's fine bro. We gotta' get outta' these black clothes which means they're both comin' home with us. Three guys wearin' black droppin' off a girl who's been knocked out...well. You get it, right bro? It'd kinda' be the opposite look a' what we're tryin' to do here.

SPENCER

She'll be fine Dole. Guy I know named Isaac once got knocked out for three hours, woke up like he was hungover but fine nonetheless. The motherfucker in the trunk can't pack that much of a wallop.

11A CUT TO: INT. HOUSE - DAY

Spencer and Donovan drag a still unconscious Paul in through the front door. They leave him on the floor face down. Spencer goes back out to the car to get Denise. Spencer walks back in carrying Denise in her arms. Dole closes the front door.

DONOVAN

Put her on Dole's bed Spence.

DOLE

On my bed? What about your...

Spencer walks back in.

SPENCER

Now what we gonna' do with slap happy down here?

DONOVAN

I was thinkin' about that.

SPENCER

Hey Dole, you get that call off to the cops okay?

DOLE

It was a little interrupted and I kinda' hung up on 'em. But they got the address.

DONOVAN

Good enough.

SPENCER

Man, I can't believe that shit attracted us like that. Don't tell me this shit 'aint right.

DOLE

Did he see us with our masks off?

SPENCER

I'm pretty sure.

DONOVAN

Stuff he may or may not remember.

DOLE

Should we change?

DONOVAN

We have to do something with him.

SPENCER

Let's tie him up. Blindfold him. Gag his ass an' put him in the garage.

DONOVAN

Vance.

SPENCER

Who?

DONOVAN

You know, Vance. He comes into Pete's all the time.

SPENCER

So what about him?

DONOVAN

Well I was thinkin'. He's a tattoo artist. We get along real well, always chattin' it up at the bar. He lost his folks to a home invasion. Brutal shit he was tellin' me. He might be into what we're doin', lend us a hand.

DOLE

Doing what bro? You guys think we might be takin' this a little too far?

SPENCER

We're takin' it where it should be taken Dole. Keep talkin' Don.

DONOVAN

This guy hits girls right? Well what if every girl he met from now on knew that? What if he had it tattooed across his fore head?

Spencer smiles. Dole stares at his brother.

SPENCER

Sheer brilliance.

DONOVAN

Spence, let's do what you said first. Drag him into the garage. Then I can call Vance and see if we can make this happen.

Donovan and Spencer pick up Paul. They drag him toward the back door.

DONOVAN

Dole, check on the girl would you?

Dole looks at his bedroom door. He walks to it.

11B INT. BEDROOM - DAY

Dole walks in his bedroom. Denise is still out, lying on the bed. Her shoes have been taken off by Spencer. Dole looks down at her. He sees his note book on his desk. Dole picks it up and a pencil. He turns to the first open page. He writes in it. Spencer walks in.

SPENCER

Still out. Keep your eyes on her will you Dole?

DOLE

Sure.

Spencer peeks in the notebook.

SPENCER

Lookin' good man. Keep a lighter around case you ever have to burn that thing. Even though we're the good guys, cops'll fuck us up if they can.

Spencer walks to the door.

SPENCER

We're their competition now.

Spencer walks out. Dole starts sketching Denise. She moans. Dole stops. Denise holds her face. She opens her eyes and looks at Dole.

DENISE

Where am I?

DOLE

Are you okay? He hit you.

DENISE

My face hurts. Paul. Paul hit me. I remember that. But where am I? I was outside my apartment.

DOLE

You're safe. We'll bring you back to your place. We saw what happened and we wanted to make sure you were okay. What was it all about?

DENISE

He's my ex-boyfriend. Biggest mistake I ever made. It's not the first time he hit me.

Denise starts crying.

DENISE

I can't believe how stupid I am!

DOLE

You're not stupid. He's the scum. Nobody should hit a girl like that.

DENISE

But I got myself involved. I knew what he was like but I kept being interested for some fuckin' reason. Am I a magnet? Bring me shit please!

DOLE

You'll be okay. I've got a good feeling about it.

Denise looks at Dole. She smiles.

DENISE

Who are you?

DOLE

I'm... I wanna' tell you. But... I can't. I'm a vigilante.

DENISE

You are? Like a Robin Hood or The Punisher or something?

DOLE

Something. Something like that. What's your name?

DENISE

Denise.

Donovan walks in. Dole turns to look at him.

DONOVAN

I'm glad to see you're awake.

DOLE

We've been talking.

DENISE

I'm okay.

Donovan looks at Dole.

DONOVAN

Can I talk to you out here a sec?

Dole looks at Denise. Donovan walks out with Dole just behind him. Dole closes the door.

11C INT. LIVING ROOM - DAY

DONOVAN

What did you talk about?

DOLE

She asked where she was an' I just said that he hit her an' she started crying. She's sweet. I feel bad for her.

DONOVAN

Did you tell her where she was? Did you tell her your name?

DOLE

I just told her she was safe and that I was a vigilante.

Donovan smiles.

DONOVAN

That's great bro. Good job.

DOLE

And her name's Denise.

DONOVAN

Alright.

Donovan walks in the bedroom.

11D INT. BEDROOM - DAY

DONOVAN

Denise...

DENISE

Yeah.

DONOVAN

Are you okay?

DENISE

I'm okay.

DONOVAN

You have work to go to? School? Responsibilities?

DENISE

I work tonight but I may call in sick after all this. I would like to go home.

DONOVAN

Now, Denise. I hope you can appreciate this. We're tryin' to do something in this fucked up world. Tragedy waits like a shadow for so many of us and there're only so many people willing to help shine a light. But not everybody sees things our way and we need to stay protected. There's a reason why all the superheroes wear masks. We'll take you home, but I need you to wear a blindfold for some of the ride. And I also need you to not say anything about this to anyone no matter what. Can you do that?

DENISE

I can. I do appreciate what you're trying to do.

Donovan looks at Dole.

DONOVAN

Take my car.

DOLE

You want me to take her?

DONOVAN

We have to stay. We're waiting for someone to show up.

DENISE

So do you have a blindfold?

11E CUT TO: INT. GARAGE - DAY

Spencer stands in the garage facing a seated Paul. Paul is  blindfolded and tied to his chair.

PAUL

Where am I? Somebody say something.

Donovan walks into the garage.

DONOVAN

You took his gag out. How long's he been awake?

SPENCER

A coupla' minutes. I been fuckin' with him a little.

PAUL

Who is that? Who are you?

Spencer picks up an empty beer can. He throws it and it hits Paul in the head.

PAUL

Stop that. Please, talk to me.

Spencer laughs.

DONOVAN

Just sit there and shut the fuck up. We saw what you did you piece of shit. You're not entitled to ask questions. In fact...

Donovan steps over and re-ties Paul's gag.

DONOVAN

Just your voice gets to me. Like you let out a buncha' brain roaches to run around in people's heads. Makes me sick.

The doorbell rings. Donovan heads for the door.

11F CUT TO: INT. LIVING ROOM - DAY

Donovan walks through the living room and to the front door. He opens it. VANCE PEARSON (mid thirties), stands in front of him. He is short and thin, clean cut with black hair, and holds a green tool kit in his right hand.

DONOVAN

Vance.

VANCE

Heya Donovan. So where this motherfucker at then?

DONOVAN

In the garage.

VANCE

You have a beer or somethin'?

DONOVAN

Sure.

Donovan walks to the fridge, opens it, and pulls a Red Hook off the top shelf. He hands it to Vance. Vance twists off the top and takes a gulp.

DONOVAN

You just wanna' show me how to use that thing?

VANCE

You kiddin'? Any tattoo work done around here bein' done by me.

DONOVAN

I'll let you know I'm sure this guy doesn't really want this particular tattoo were gonna' give him.

VANCE

You know Don, every time I'm at your uncle's bar an' you're pourin' drinks I get treated like motherfuckin' royalty. Roll out the red fuckin' carpet right? I owe you. An' your brother an' your uncle. If it weren't for you two workin' there an' your uncle ownin' it I'd be a much unhappier fella.

donovan

Spencer's here too. You remember him? He's security at Pete's.

VANCE

Sure, I remember him.

DONOVAN

Just thought I'd mention 'cause usin' names down there wouldn't be the smartest thing to do.

VANCE

Got it. No names. So show me where this monkey's at so I can get to work.

11G INT. GARAGE - DAY

Vance and Donovan walk into the garage. Spencer stares at Paul. He looks up as Vance and Donovan walk in. He smiles.

SPENCER

Well alright.

VANCE

Now I don't want you to think I don't remember your name but the big guy thinks we shouldn't use 'em on account this jackass can hear us. This is the client right?

SPENCER

That he is. Motherfucker was caught in the act.

VANCE

Lucky us. Mind if I take the gag out for a sec?

DONOVAN

Go ahead.

Vance takes out Paul's gag.

PAUL

Thank you, thank you.

Vance laughs.

VANCE

Well, well. I wouldn't thank me yet partner. You got a name my man?

PAUL

It's Paul. I'm only twenty six.

VANCE

I didn't ask your age fuck face, I asked your name. Big man, you mind getting me a razor and some shaving cream and some rubbing alcohol?

DONOVAN

Sure.

Donovan walks out.

SPENCER

You do a lotta' these?

VANCE

I do. None quite like this one though.

PAUL

Wait, what are you gonna' do to me? Please don't.

Vance puts Paul's gag back in.

VANCE

You got an annoying voice my man.

Donovan walks back in. He carries shaving cream, a razor, and rubbing alcohol.

VANCE

Nice work.

Donovan hands them to Vance.

VANCE

Now this 'aint exactly the ideal set up here. Normally we'd have the client, Paul in this case, in a sort of dentist chair. Mine's black and looks like somethin' Captain Kirk'd use. First you shave. Now let me get this straight. You want it right across the forehead so other people can read it, right?

Paul starts shaking and tries to speak but all we hear is muffled sound.

VANCE

Calm down there Paulie. It don't hurt really, sorta feels like an annoying scratch.

Vance puts the shaving cream on Paul's forehead and shaves across.

VANCE

Just wanna' keep things sanitary here. Very important part a' this.

Vance dabs the rubbing alcohol on Paul's forehead.

VANCE

Now Paulie, after this you're gonna' wanna' stay outta' the water for about two weeks. Normally I'd be tellin' you to put lotion on and all that but I gotta' feeling you 'aint gonna' be takin' very good care a' my art anyways.

Paul shakes and tries to move. The camera focuses on Spencer and Donovan. We hear the buzzing of the tattoo gun start up. Paul now moans louder.

VANCE

Now now, you keep movin' it's gonna' look even worse.

Camera continues to zoom in on Donovan and Spencer.

11I CUT TO: INT. CAR - DAY

Dole and Denise sit in front of Denise's apartment, the car's engine still running.

DOLE

This is it right?

DENISE

Number two eleven. You want some coffee? A beer or somethin'?

DOLE

I don't know. I probably shouldn't. Your face feel any better?

DENISE

A little. You sure you don't want something?

Dole shakes his head. He smiles.

DOLE

Maybe some other time.

Denise smiles. She opens the door.

DENISE

Okay.

She gets out.

DENISE

Thanks again. For everything.

DOLE

You're welcome.

Denise closes the door. Dole smiles. He puts the car in drive and takes off.

11J CUT TO: INT. GARAGE - DAY

Spencer, Donovan, and Vance all smile as they look at Paul's new Tattoo. "I HIT WOMEN" is now tattooed in big black letters across Paul's forehead.

SPENCER

Now that's a sharp lookin' tat. You gonna' have the ladies all over you now Paul, mark my word.

VANCE

You got some gauze around here, a bandage, somethin' like that? Would hate to see it get infected.

Paul is clearly distraught and looks as though he's been crying.

DONOVAN

Yeah, I've got a bandage I think.

Donovan walks into the living room.

11K INT. LIVING ROOM - DAY

Donovan walks from the garage into the living room. Dole walks in the front door.

DONOVAN

Hey bro.

DOLE

Hey.

DONOVAN

How'd that go?

DOLE

The ride? Fine I guess.

DONOVAN

She keep the blindfold on a while?

dole

She did. I don't think she'd say anything though.

DONOVAN

Well we don't exactly know her that well do we? Go into the garage, see Vance's handywork.

Dole walks into the garage as Donovan heads for the bathroom.

11L INT. GARAGE - DAY

Dole walks in. Vance and Spencer pound beers.

VANCE

Hey, there he is. How you doin' big man?

DOLE

Good, thanks. Whoa, look at that.

SPENCER

'Aint it a beaut?

VANCE

No charge for you guys. Just hook me up with a shot sometime.

Donovan walks back in carrying gauze.

DONOVAN

Here...

Someone knocks on the front door.

DONOVAN

Bro, check out the peephole see who it is.

11M INT. LIVING ROOM - DAY

Dole walks out of the garage and into the living room. He walks up to the front door and looks out the peephole. Terri is standing on the front porch. Dole walks back into the garage.

11N INT. GARAGE - DAY

Vance finishes taping gauze to Paul's forehead.

SPENCER

So where you wanna' take him now?

DONOVAN

Let's take him to the beach and make him hike a while. Who was it bro?

DOLE

It's Terri.

DONOVAN

She still out there?

DOLE

I think so.

The doorbell rings. Terri knocks again.

DONOVAN

Fuck. My car's here. She's gonna' know I'm home. Why don't you guys go out the back and put Paul in the trunk of your car Spence. I'll let Terri in and keep her occupied, you guys hollar for me when everything's clear and I'll come runnin'. We gotta' be at work in a coupla' hours anyway, I'll just say Pete asked me to come in early.

SPENCER

You heard him Paul, time to check out the surf.

Spencer lifts Paul to his feet.

VANCE

An' since I'm done I think I'll hop along. Probably see you tonight for that shot if it's alright.

DONOVAN

After this you could live there if you wanted.

VANCE

Don't tempt me now.

DONOVAN

See you guys in a few.

Donovan walks into the living room. Spencer, Vance, Dole and Paul walk out the back door.

11O INT. LIVING ROOM - DAY

Donovan opens the front door. Terri smiles at him as she walks in.

TERRI

You are home. I thought so.

DONOVAN

Well hi.

Donovan kisses her. Through the front window we can see Spencer and Dole putting Paul in the trunk.

DONOVAN

This is a nice surprise. I'm on my way to work though babe, promised Pete I'd come in early.

TERRI

I was hoping we could...

DONOVAN

We'll have to save it.

TERRI

Me an' some of the girls may come by tonight.

DONOVAN

Please do, I'd love that.

They kiss again. Spencer honks the horn.

DONOVAN

I gotta' go. I'll see you tonight then.

TERRI

And tomorrow night's on?

DONOVAN

Absolutely.

They kiss again. Both walk out the front door. Donovan closes it behind him.

11P EXT. HOUSE - DAY

TERRI

Hey Spencer, hey Dole.

Vance drives off in his truck.

DOLE

Hi Terri.

SPENCER

Heya Terri. Don, we gotta' get truckin'.

Donovan gets in the car. Terri stares as they drive off. She gets in her Honda and drives the opposite direction.

11Q INT. CAR (MOVING) - DAY

SPENCER

She didn't see anything did she? Fuckin' curtains were wide open.

DONOVAN

I know. She didn't see anything.

SPENCER

Good. Oh man, this is so outta' control. Twenty four hours an' we've already fucked up two bad guys, not to mention the dogshit that started it all.

DONOVAN

Let's take him out to San Gregorio.

12A CUT TO: EXT. BEACH - DAY

Paul stands on the beach. Spencer, Donovan, and Dole stand in front of him. It is cold and windy and rainy and empty of any other people.

DONOVAN

Now Paul, we're gonna' leave you. This is the luckiest and unluckiest day a' your life. You're lucky 'cause we're not gonna' kill you. You're unlucky 'cause you gotta' kinda' nasty tattoo on your forehead.

Paul starts crying.

DONOVAN

Now we could still kill you Paul if you don't do like I said an' keep that blindfold on 'til you can't hear the car anymore, got it? We'll be watching, trust me.

PAUL

Okay I got it. Please don't kill me.

SPENCER

It's been a kick Paul, really. Time a my life.

Spencer, Donovan, and Dole get in the car and drive off. Moments pass. Paul stands breathing heavy and shivering. He calms himself and listens before taking his blindfold off. Paul looks up and down the beach. he cries again.

12B CUT TO: INT. CAR (MOVING) - DAY

Spencer drives with Donovan shotgun and Dole in the back seat.

DOLE

You think he'll be all right?

SPENCER

Who gives a shit? You saw what he did.

DOLE

Yeah, you're right.

SPENCER

I know I am.

INSERT 13AA CUT TO: INT. BAR - NIGHT

Pete's Place is a dimly lit, traditional English-style pub. Beer taps line the wall behind the bar. Two dartboards are on the far side of the wall and there is plenty of bench seating. PETE TASKIN (mid 40s), Donovan and Dole's uncle, sits alone at a table jotting notes and figures on a white notepad. Donovan stands behind the bar talking to Terri, who sits alone in front of him. Dole stands next to Donovan, but stares at sports highlights on the t.v. in the corner. Vance sits at the bar talking to TATE COLE (mid 20s), a handsome, stalky guy. Tate sips his beer. Vance takes a drink. He turns to Tate.

VANCE

Tell me somethin' Tate, you ever gotten away with somethin' made you feel powerful? You know, like somethin' could be viewed as not so good by some folk but you know it's good, atleast to you it is...

TATE

Wait, what? Vance, we been sittin' here all fuckin' night which means I got nearly as much Guiness as blood in my system right now. You askin' me if I've gotten away with somethin' I wasn't proud of?

VANCE

No man. Somethin' you were proud of but some people may see as wrong.

TATE

Sure.

VANCE

Did you feel lifted by it? You know, like stronger?

TATE

Sure I did.

VANCE

What happened?

TATE

Well, a girlfriend a' mine; not girlfriend but girl-friend, had a guy try to pull some date rape shit on her back when I was in high school. She didn't want to go to the cops an' I didn't want the prick to get away with it. So one day I followed him. Put on a ski mask and took some brass knuckles to the motherfucker. Broke his nose and jaw and knocked out two teeth. S'pose I coulda' gone to jail for that one.

Tate takes a drink.

TATE

That the sorta' thing you were talkin' about?

VANCE

Exactly what I'm talkin' about.

Vance smiles. He looks to the far end of the bar where Spencer sits across from CARMEN BAZORRAH (mid 30's), a tanned skin, very attractive woman.

VANCE

Looks like Spencer's at it again.

TATE

I recognize that girl. Isn't she a model or somethin'?

VANCE

Could be. Don't really follow that stuff.

Camera pans to Donovan as he leans in to kiss Terri.

TERRI

You know I'm just waiting for you now.

DONOVAN

I know. We'll be outta' here soon I'm sure.

Pete turns to Donovan and Dole.

PETE

Hey you two, come sit with me a sec huh?

Dole and Donovan turn to Pete. They walk to his table and sit across from him.

PETE

Okay you two, start talkin'.

DONOVAN

About what Pete?

PETE

About what's goin' on with you guys. You both seem a little off an' if anyone should know it's me. Now talk.

DONOVAN

We're fine Pete. Hunky dorey. Just basic everyday shit, you know.

PETE

Yeah, I wasn't expectin' you to say much. Dole, how about you?

DOLE

Things are fine Pete.

Pete stares at Donovan and Dole.

PETE

Fine. Play it like that if you insist. Probably none a' my business right? I just care about you two. You let me know when things go beyond basic everyday shit huh?

DONOVAN

Ofcourse Pete.

PETE

Good enough. Now let's get these guys outta' here so we can close up. I'm tired.

13A CUT TO: INT. HOUSE - NIGHT

Donovan, Dole, and Terri walk in the front door.

DONOVAN

Ofcourse I love Pete, Dole, the job's just wearin' on me man.

DOLE

Yeah me too but Pete needs us, you can't quit.

DONOVAN

Hey I'll do whatever the fuck I wanna' do. It's spelled J O B not J A I L. An' I'm not sayin' I wanna' quit tomorrow, I just don't think I can take another year is all.

DOLE

Well, you're probably right. Pete'll be all right.

DONOVAN

Just because he's our fuckin' uncle doesn't mean we owe him our lives.

DOLE

But Donnie, he's always helped us out. Dad takes off, Pete's there. Mom gets cancer, Pete's there. He's mom's only brother.

donovan

Look, let's just drop it alright?

DOLE

Yeah.

DONOVAN

You recognize the girl Spencer went home with tonight?

Terri walks to the kitchen.

TERRI

Anybody want some water?

DONOVAN

No thanks babe.

TERRI

Well I need some.

Terri pours a glass of water for herself.

DOLE

Should I?

donovan

Maybe. She was in the paper a few months ago. Model got stalked by some loon a few years back. Sent her pictures of...

DOLE

Dead babies right? 'Cause she had an abortion. I remember.

TERRI

That was her wasn't it?

DONOVAN

Definitely.

TERRI

That guy that did that got out on parol or something didn't he?

DONOVAN

That's what the article was about.

TERRI

Why do people lose control so badly? I mean, come on, the guy hung a dead cat with a bonnet and pasifier on her fucking front door.

DOLE

No kidding?

TERRI

Makes me sick. Ooh... I think I gotta' go pass out. Donovan, hurry up would you?

DONOVAN

Sure babe.

Terri goes into Donovan's bedroom. She closes the door behind her.

DOLE

I think I'm gonna' draw a little.

DONOVAN

Go to it. Remember we're partying here tomorrow night. Then we gotta' come up with what we're gonna' do next and who we're gonna' do it to.

DOLE

Maybe a little break would be good.

DONOVAN

A day. Bro, I've never felt so significant as I have the last coupla' days. I don't want it to stop.

DOLE

I just think we should be careful is all. Whatever you wanna' do I'll do it.

DONOVAN

Good night Dole.

DOLE

Good night Donovan.

Donovan walks into his room. Dole walks into his.

13B INT. DONOVAN'S BEDROOM - NIGHT

Terri lies under the covers as Donovan walks in. She motions for him to come in bed. Donovan starts taking off his shirt.

14A CUT TO: INT. HOUSE -NIGHT

Spencer looks around at photos that line the hallways. He holds a glass of red wine. CARMEN BAZZORAH (late 20s), walks out of the bathroom. She also drinks red wine.

CARMEN

You like 'em?

SPENCER

The pictures? What's not to like? You're a beautiful woman Carmen.

CARMEN

I knew I brought you over here for a reason.

Carmen kisses Spencer. She takes his hand and leads him into the bedroom. The door closes behind them. A few moments pass. We hear them through the door, laughing and getting physical. Soon, we hear a creak, like a gate or a door opening. Just after, the sound of soft footsteps. A large silver butcher knife passes in front of the camera. DWIGHT COX (late 30s), stands at Carmen's door.

14B INT. BEDROOM - NIGHT

Spencer and Carmen make out on Carmen's bed. Carmen wears her bra, Spencer is shirtless. Dwight rushes in the door holding the knife. He sees Spencer and goes after him. Spencer dodges the knife and punches Dwight in the side of the head. Dwight falls to the ground and drops his knife. Spencer kicks him.

SPENCER

I was hoping you'd show up here motherfucker.

Spencer continues to kick Dwight.

SPENCER

You were gonna' hurt this beautiful woman weren't you? Cut her, huh? Big mistake man. Worst a' your life.

Dwight passes out.

SPENCER

Carmen, you got some duck tape, rope, anything I can tie him up with?

CARMEN

I can't believe he came back. He was gonna' stab me. On any night to bring a guy home...

SPENCER

Guy's like this're regurgated. Always end up completely gonzo. You wanna' grab me some tape?

Carmen walks into the kitchen. Spencer picks up the phone. He dials.

13C CUT TO: INT. DONOVAN'S BEDROOM - NIGHT

Donovan and Terri are asleep. The phone rings. Donovan wakes up. He answers it.

DONOVAN

Mmmm. Hello?

SPENCER (V.O.)

You will not believe what happened to me.

Donovan sits up.

SPENCER (V.O.)

I got that motherfucker was stalkin' Carmen Bazorrah, came in an' tried to cut her up with a fuckin' sword. Looked like one anyways.

14C INT. CARMEN'S BEDROOM - NIGHT

SPENCER

Carmen's bringin' in some tape now. Why don't you two come over here so we can take him for a little ride.

Carmen walks in with the tape.

DONOVAN (V.O.)

Where does she live?

13D CUT TO: INT. DONOVAN'S BEDROOM - NIGHT

Terri looks up at Donovan.

SPENCER (V.O.)

One six two Chestnut. By the mall.

DONOVAN

We'll be there in ten minutes.

Donovan hangs up.

TERRI

You going somewhere?

DONOVAN

I have to. Go back to sleep babe, I won't be too long. Spencer needs somethin'.

TERRI

What's going on?

DONOVAN

Go back to sleep.

Donovan gets up.

13E INT. DOLE'S BEDROOM - NIGHT

Dole lies under his covers drawing in his note book. Donovan walks in.

DONOVAN

Get dressed.

14D CUT TO: INT. HOUSE - NIGHT

The doorbell rings in Carmen's house. Spencer walks to the door and opens it. Donovan and Dole stand on the porch.

SPENCER

Ten minutes exactly. Come on back to the bedroom.

Carmen walks in.

CARMEN

Don't you two work over at Pete's too?

DONOVAN

Yeah we do. I'm Donovan, this is my brother Dole.

CARMEN

Aren't you guys gonna' call the cops?

DONOVAN

Possibly. Let's drag him out to the car you two.

Donovan, Dole, and Spencer walk to the bedroom. They look down at Dwight.

SPENCER

Just walked in holdin' that blade. Don't think he had good intentions.

Donovan, Dole, and Spencer bend down to hoist up Dwight. He moans as they drag him through the hall and outside.

14E EXT. HOUSE - NIGHT

They drag Dwight out to the car, open the trunk, and throw him in.

CARMEN

Wait, aren't we tampering with evidence? I mean, I wanna' make sure I'm not screwing up the chances of him going back to jail.

DONOVAN

Listen to me Carmen. You're safe. This man will never bother you again, I guarantee it. Spencer saved your life, don't forget that. Just pretend this didn't happen. Let us take over from here, okay.

CARMEN

Yeah, okay. Thank you Spencer.

SPENCER

I'll have to take a rain check on where things we're goin' in there.

Carmen smiles.

DONOVAN

Go inside Carmen. Have a drink and try to relax.

Carmen walks inside.

DOLE

So?

DONOVAN

Yeah, I know. Let me think.

SPENCER

We gotta' figure somethin' out's gonna' keep your gurantee.

DONOVAN

I know. I think I've got it. Way up in the hills the woods are thick as an afro. We could tie him up to a tree. Gag him, strip him. Let him suffer up there for a while. Nobody fuckin' goes up there.

SPENCER

That doesn't sound concrete.

DONOVAN

So what then, drive him to the police station?

SPENCER

What if he couldn't walk? Couldn't really attack Carmen if he was in a wheelchair. We do a number on his legs that'll take years to heal. He's goin' down anyways, way I understand it. Carmen was tellin' me a little about it. Motherfucker's got three women accusin' him a rape over a five year period plus the terrorizing a' Carmen he's already serving for. Cops're gonna' throw the book at him anyway.

DOLE

So you wanna' break his legs?

SPENCER

Yes. Like twigs.

DONOVAN

Let's take him up to the hills. I got a baseball bat in the trunk otta' do the trick.

Donovan opens his trunk and pulls out a black baseball bat. Spencer starts up his car. Donovan and Dole get in.

15A CUT TO: EXT. WOODS - NIGHT

Spencer, Donovan, and Dole drag Dwight through the woods. He is still tied and gagged and quietly walks with them.

DONOVAN

I think this is good. Rope bro?

Dole hands Donovan a roll of brown rope. Spencer holds the baseball bat in his right hand. Donovan begins tying Dwight to a tree. He finshes and steps back.

DONOVAN

Just to be fair, I'm gonna' take off your gag an' you can get a chance explainin' why you tried to kill a woman tonight.

Donvan takes out Dwight's gag.

DWIGHT

I'm doing what God's callin' me to do. She was a sinner and it was supposed to be my job to deliver her to the devil. Now you three will be there with her.

DONOVAN

Excuse me? That's your explanation? Man, you are gone aren't you?

SPENCER

Must be a glutton for punishment.

DONOVAN

Let me tell you somethin' Dwight, that 'aint God's voice you're hearin'. God doesn't say shit, leaves us all here to figure it out for ourselves. You're failing miserably Dwight. It's really a shame.

Donovan puts Dwight's gag back in.

DONOVAN

Spencer. The plate is yours.

Dwight moans.

SPENCER

Two out, bottom a' the ninth. Bonds takes a nice lead on third. This is it folks. Schilling checks the runner. Here's the wind-up, and the pitch...

Dwight screams as Spencer swings the bat.

13F CUT TO: INT. BEDROOM - NIGHT

Donovan walks in his bedroom. Terri is asleep. She opens her eyes and turns to Donovan.

TERRI

What time is it?

DONOVAN

About four.

TERRI

Where were you?

DONOVAN

With Spencer and Dole.

TERRI

Is everything okay?

DONOVAN

Absolutely.

Donovan takes off his shirt.

TERRI

Get in here, I'm cold.

Donovan walks to the bed.

16A CUT TO: INT. KITCHEN - MORNING

Dole eats a bowl of cereal and drinks coffee at the small kitchen table. Donovan walks into the kitchen.

DONOVAN

Hey.

DOLE

Hey. Terri still here?

DONOVAN

Still sleeping. Fuck bro, that notebook a' yours is gonna' be filled up after the week we've been having.

DOLE

It almost is. You know it's weird... I know you've been in lots of fights and seen blood and all that but for me, until this week the only place I saw that stuff was on a t.v. set. Now I almost feel like I'm getting used to it. That can't be good can it?

DONOVAN

I don't think it's good or bad. That stuff is out there bro, it's about time you stopped pulling up the covers. Get used to it but don't get numb to it 'cause that's when you have to worry about tellin' the difference between good guys and bad guys. There still some Chex left?

DOLE

Yeah there's plenty. There's hot coffee too.

DONOVAN

Thanks bro.

DOLE

So I guess we're still havin' that party tonight huh?

DONOVAN

Yeah we are. Too many people comin' to cancel now even if I wanted to.

DOLE

What about before then, do you have plans today?

DONOVAN

Terri wants to go to a movie.

DOLE

Okay. Maybe I'll just stay in today, clean up.

DONOVAN

That would be great bro.

DOLE

I was thinkin' about...

Dole stops.

DONOVAN

What bro?

DOLE

I was thinkin' I might go see how Denise is doing.

DONOVAN

I don't think that's such a good idea Dole.

Dole pauses. He goes back to his cereal.

DOLE

Right. I guess you're right.

Donovan sits next to Dole.

DONOVAN

Bro you and I both know what we're doing is illegal. We get caught we could end up in jail an' that is absolutely what we don't want.

DOLE

So because I'm going along with something you started I can't go talk to a girl that might actually like me.

DONOVAN

Is that how you feel?

DOLE

No. I mean, I know we're doing a good thing. I just, I felt somethin' around her you know?

Donovan puts his hand on Dole's shoulder.

DONOVAN

Somethin' else'll come along, trust me.

Someone knocks on the door. Donovan walks through the living room and opens looks out the peephole. He opens the door to Spencer. He walks in.

SPENCER

You have coffee I hope. I'm fuckin' exhausted.

DOLE

Why didn't you sleep in longer?

SPENCER

Couldn't sleep much really. Now gimme' some fuckin' coffee 'fore I float away.

DOLE

It's on the counter.

Spencer walks over and fixes himself some coffee. Terri walks out of the bedroom fully dressed.

TERRI

I gotta' go home. Check my messages, feed Lucy.

She walks over and kisses Donovan. She sees Spencer.

TERRI

Hi Spencer. So what was so important last night you had to keep my fella' out 'til four o'clock?

SPENCER

I would tell you Terri but it's a little on the personal side. Maybe some other time.

Spencer sits on the couch. He sips his coffee.

TERRI

Okay. Bye Dole.

DOLE

You want some coffee for the road?

TERRI

That's alright, thanks anyway.

DONOVAN

See ya' tonight babe.

TERRI

See ya' tonight.

They kiss again. Terri walks out the front door. Spencer turns on the t.v.

SPENCER

I went back to Carmen's last night.

DONOVAN

You did?

SPENCER

She gave me a check for a thousand bucks. Told me it wasn't for the sex, it was for saving her life.

DONOVAN

You gonna' keep it all?

SPENCER

I'm gonna' invest it Don. Invest it in our new business.

DOLE

Business?

SPENCER

I don't expect we'll make much. But I definitely wanna' expand. Get some more folks in on what we're doin'. Fatten the circle a bit.

DONOVAN

Spence, the more people involved, the more it comes back to us.

Dole looks at the t.v.

SPENCER

Nah man, the more people involved, the more shit gets done.

DOLE

Spencer turn up the t.v.

A REPORTER (female, early thirties) stands on a suburban street with a microphone. Spencer turns up the volume.

17A EXT. STREET - DAY

REPORTER

Here in this quiet suburban neighborhood, a grisly discovery was made this morning by a boy who had lost a baseball.

16B INT. HOUSE - DAY

DOLE

That looks like where Walter's house is.

17B EXT. STREET - DAY

REPORTER

After eight year old Tim Brooks' baseball went in through a house window, he climbed in after it and found the house's owner dead in the bathroom. The deceased, Walter Burr...

16C INT. HOUSE - DAY

sPENCER

Holy fuck.

17C EXT . STREET - DAY

REPORTER

...who had been living on welfare recently after spending all of an inheretence he had been left. Now, the story is especially interesting because of the cause of death. Apparently, Mr. Burr had been burned in numerous places but accroding to the coroner died of massive trauma to the head. All the police are saying is based on the burns it appears to have been a vigilante act and they're following it as a murder case. Back to you Jim...

16D INT. HOUSE - DAY

Donovan turns off the t.v.

DOLE

The cops didn't even go there!

SPENCER

Damn. Well that's a little unexpected.

DONOVAN

We gotta' stop you guys. For a while anyways. Things could get ugly now someone's dead.

DOLE

I can't believe he's dead.

SPENCER

Well don't cry about it. He's the one ran into the bathroom an' slipped. We didn't kill him Dole, I mean we may've been somewhat responsible as far as starting a chain of events, but we didn't kill him.

DONOVAN

But the cops'll most definitely say we did if they ever find out who we are. That's why we just gotta' lay low for a while. Put a lid on it 'til it's sneaked away from the media. Then maybe we can regroup.

SPENCER

You kiddin' Donovan? Stop now? We're on a roll man.

DONOVAN

Just regroup. You wanna' go to fuckin' jail for murderin' that prick?

DOLE

Let's atleast take a day. Have fun tonight and not think about it.

SPENCER

I can do that.

Spencer drinks his coffee.

SPENCER

You guys mind watchin' the baseball game?

DONOVAN

Go for it.

FADE OUT.

18A FADE IN: INT. HOUSE - DUSK

Dole and Donovan drink beers in the kitchen. Spencer walks in the front door carrying a twelve pack. He puts them all in the fridge.

DOLE

I'm still in shock a little.

DONOVAN

Yeah well don't talk about it tonight huh? Let's keep it between us three.

Spencer opens a bottle of beer.

SPENCER

I've been waitin' for this shit.

He takes a swig.

SPENCER

Heaven's juice.

DONOVAN

You got some rollies and chips too right?

SPENCER

Rolaids? What the fuck we need those for?

DONOVAN

Not Rolaids, rollies. You know, tabacco and papers Spence.

SPENCER

Oh right. Yeah sure, I got it all.

DOLE

You got that shit just for Terri didn't you?

DONOVAN

Don't give me shit bro. You know I don't like it.

SPENCER

I don't fuckin' understand that girl. She won't go near a hit a weed but runs through cigarettes like toilet paper. Fuck's that about?

DONOVAN

Pot hits her hard man, what can I say?

18B The doorbell rings. Dole opens it to Terri, Marissa, and MITCHELL TROPH (mid 20s).

DOLE

Hey Marissa. Hi Terri, hi Mitch.

MITCHELL

Dole, how's life man?

All three walk in. They carry a brown paper bag.

DOLE

It's been interesting lately.

They close the door behind themselves.

MITCHELL

How so?

Dole looks at Donovan. Donovan sips his beer.

DOLE

Just this and that. This and that.

DISSOLVE: The room gets fuller and fuller, eventually leaving a packed party.

18C CUT TO: INT. LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

Marissa, Terri, and Lisa dance to Mother Hips near the stereo. Mitchell, Donovan, Dole, and two other people play cards with full glasses in front of them at a table near the kitchen.

MITCHELL

Call.

DONOVAN

Three tens.

MITCHELL

Fuck me.

Marissa bangs the table with her hip.

DONOVAN

Hey careful, there's shit here could be spilled.

Marissa sticks her tongue out at Donovan.

DONOVAN

This is only gonna' get worse.

Dole looks at the front door.

18D CUT TO: INT. BATHROOM - NIGHT

Spencer stands in the bathroom with one other guy and a girl. He holds an empty plastic milk carton in the full bathtub. The carton is filling with smoke.

SPENCER

Now if it's your first gravity bong, you gotta' take it slow, cap it off. This here's about as much smoke as fast as you can get it, an' we don't want no accidents. I knew a guy, had about six beers and did this, fuckin' puked all up in the tub and all over the carton. As you can imagine no one else really wanted a hit after that.

18E CUT TO: INT. LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

Focus on Lisa, Terri, and Marissa.

MARISSA

He's that good?

LISA

Every time without fail.

MARISSA

Bullshit.

LISA

I'm telling you it's the practice. You either get a good guy you can marry and the sex 'aint bad or you get a guy like Spence that is practically a professional he's had so much experience.

TERRI

Yeah, but you can forget taking the rubber off.

LISA

Well, I like to live dangerously.

MARISSA

Good times are worth risks huh?

LISA

Absolutely.

18F Focus on the card table.

DONOVAN

Just because Jerry went to the Raiders doesn't mean he's a traitor.

MITCHELL

Are you kidding? He might as well've gone to St. Louis.

DOLE

But The Raiders and Niners aren't even in the same conference.

MITCHELL

But you know there's animosity there. Nobody I've met likes 'em both the same. An' we're includin' people from Frisco, Oakland, Emeryville, Burlingame, Berekely. You name it. You root for one, an' if they lose you root for the other. You don't root for 'em both equal.

DONOVAN

Whatever. What you got?

Mitchell throws his cards on the table.

MITCHELL

Four Kings.

DOLE

I'm out.

Dole gets up. He walks toward the front door.

DONOVAN

Where you goin' bro?

DOLE

For some air.

Donovan walks up to Dole.

DONOVAN

Some air? You feelin' alright?

DOLE

I got a weird feelin' bro. Somethin' in the air.

DONOVAN

Relax man. Just relax an' have fun, huh?

DOLE

I think I'm gonna' go for a drive.

DONOVAN

You okay to drive?

DOLE

I'm fine, I only had two.

DONOVAN

Alright, well hurry back huh?

Dole walks out.

19A CUT TO: EXT. STREET - NIGHT

Dole pulls the car over in front of Denise's apartment. He gets out and walks to the door. He knocks. We hear Denise's voice from inside.

DENISE

Just a sec.

She opens the door.

DENISE

Hi. I was hoping you'd come see me eventually. Come in for a little bit.

DOLE

I hope it's an okay time.

19B Dole walks in.

DENISE

It's a perfect time. Grab a seat. You want a beer?

DOLE

I'd better not. I've already had two.

DENISE

How about a soda?

DOLE

Yeah, sure.

Denise grabs Dole a can of soda from the fridge. She walks over and hands it to Dole, then sits next to him on the couch. Dole takes a sip of soda.

DOLE

Thanks.

DENISE

Don't mention it.

DOLE

I just came to see if you were okay. Came to see how you're doing.

DENISE

You're one a' those guys aren't you? A gem. Hard to find. I get this feeling with you that's just totally genuine. See most guys'll tell you whatever you wanna' hear 'til they have you in bed, then you find out they're basically scum. But by that time you've already given it up an' you don't wanna' feel like a complete idiot so you excuse it. Say to yourself I musta' really wanted that. But you, you have nothing but good vibes coming off you. I don't think you'd just try to get me in bed.

DOLE

Denise it's guys like that that I'm up against.

DENISE

Can I ask something?

DOLE

Sure I guess.

DENISE

What'd you do to Paul?

DOLE

Well... we told the world what he was like. He won't be fooling any girls any time soon.

Denise smiles.

DENISE

I still don't think I can thank you enough. Talking to you, being where I was... something about all that really woke me up. I realized I'm valuable. I'm not some dish for some asshole to eat his dinner on an' then throw in the sink for somebody else to wash off an' then do the same thing.

DOLE

Yeah. Well, trust me, I've got a lot to figure out too. All I want really is to be happy an' all these little things in this world keep tellin' me it's impossible. I mean, I love my brother you know? Sometimes I just get so pessimistic, like eventually I'm gonna' lose him too. Sometimes I feel like no matter what I do, eventually I'm gonna' be lost or the things I care about are gonna' be lost on me.

DENISE

Don't think like that. Live in the moment.

DOLE

Well most a' the time I do. But sometimes I just get to thinking... my brother, he had a girlfriend once named Cheryl. I swear I'd never seen my brother so happy. This was about three years ago. They were together for two or so. Perfect match these two. I mean, I was a little jealous 'cause I barely hung out with my brother when he was with her. But I was really happy for him, you know?

DENISE

This story isn't gonna' end well is it?

Dole shakes his head.

DOLE

She went to San Francisco State, smart girl, beautiful, her whole life ahead of her. My brother and I were working one night an' Cheryl went to a party with some friends. She ended up getting plastered I guess an' this motherfucker found her nearly passed out on a couch. Offered her some water that she could barely drink. Water had some kinda' drug in it, I forget what it's called, but these kinda' guys we were talkin' about use it to get girls in bed. Takes away their inhibitions I guess, makes 'em agreeable. So he takes her into a bedroom an' rapes her.

Denise starts getting choked up. Dole stares down as' he tells the story.

DOLE

This stuff, this drug, fucked with her brain, mixed with the alcohol she had an' Cheryl never woke up the next morning. Died at age twenty two. My brother's never been the same since then. The guy that's responsible is serving a life sentence but my brother would do anything to have him out so he could kill him. I mean, my brother an' Cheryl were definitely in love. They had ideas an' dreams an' my brother never got to say goodbye.

DEniSE

Can I hug you?

Dole smiles.

DOLE

Yeah I'd like that.

They stand up and hug. Denise looks into Dole's eyes.

DENISE

Can't you tell me your name?

DOLE

My name's Dole.

DENISE

It's nice to meet you Dole.

DOLE

It's nice to meet you too Denise.

They stare for a moment before kissing.

DOLE

Denise, whatever you do, you can't tell anyone about me or my brother or what happened with Paul. The cops are looking for us now an' we could end up in deep shit if we're not careful.

DENISE

I promise, on my grandfather's grave, I'll never tell a soul.

Dole smiles. They kiss again. Dole looks at her.

DENISE

You're gonna' leave now aren't you?

DOLE

I have to get back. My brother's waiting.

DENISE

You'll come back won't you? I mean not tonight but soon?

DOLE

Ofcourse I will.

Someone knocks on the door.

DOLE

You expecting someone?

Denise shakes her head.

DENISE

I think it's still unlock...

Before Denise can finish, Paul walks in. Just behind him is Russ French, the guy who tried to rape Marissa at the first party. He closes the door behind him. Dole stands still, silent. Denise looks at Paul.

RUSS

Surprise surprise. Always smart to lock the door.

18G CUT TO: INT. DONOVAN AND DOLE'S HOUSE - NIGHT

The party is closing up. Spencer, Donovan, Terri, Marissa, Lisa and Mitch all stand around the living room. The house is cluttered with empty beer and hard alcohol bottles.

SPENCER

Don't tell me they 'aint gotta' shot. Fuckin' Rams eventually gonna' get older, get slower. Sure now they're like the Niners of old or maybe when the Cowboys had that dynasty thing goin', but the Niners are movin' up quick.

MITCH

Maybe in a few years the Niners'll make a push, but I wouldn't expect it this season man.

Terri and Donovan kiss.

TERRI

As exciting as this football talk is, I think we're gonna' make our way to the bedroom.

LISA

Well keep it down in there you two, there're still guests here.

Terri and Donovan smile. They walk hand in hand to the bedroom.

MARISSA

I still don't get why you boys get so emotional over a stupid game. I mean, I've tried watching and the whole thing makes no sense.

SPENCER

It's 'cause you don't know shit about it. It's exciting when you're into it Marissa. Like you're into clothes right? You go into Nordstrom an' it's like us bein' at Candlestick. Different strokes for different folks babe.

LISA

Where'd Dole go anyways? I haven't seen him in a while.

SPENCER

You know that's a damn fuckin' good question, where is that motherfucker?

19C CUT TO: INT. DENISE'S APARTMENT - NIGHT

Russ pulls a gun from his waistline and points it at Dole. Paul walks into the kitchen.

RUSS

You are Dole Carsen after all. Remember me? My name's Russ.

DOLE

You tried to rape Marissa.

RUSS

I was taking advantage of a good situation. Girls should know better than to get that drunk an' start flauntin' what they got. 'Sides, girls like that just a pile a meat anyways. Ground round. 'Aint barely gotta' brain so all they're really good for is fuckin'. Gettin' me off.

DENISE

Are you serious?

RUSS

Paul, you got that rope?

DOLE

You don't know Marissa. She's a great person who didn't deserve what you were gonna' do to her.

RUSS

Paul tie up that girlfriend a' yours.

DENISE

Paul are you out of your mind?

PAUL

Are you blind? Did you see what they did to my head?! This is fuckin' permanent!!

DENISE

Maybe you shouldnt've hit me.

PAUL

You stupid bitch. If you woulda' jus' been the girl I told you to be this wouldn't a' happened. But no, and now you may not make it through the night.

DOLE

How the fuck do you two even know eachother?

Paul ties Denise to a chair while Russ holds the gun on Dole.

RUSS

You think I'm jus' gonna' sit around an' let someone humiliate me like the three a' you did? I've followed you. Vigilantes. I know everything. I know about Walter Burr. I went into his house after you left an' hit him on the skull with a two by four. Figured it'd come back to you. I followed you up to the beach an' met Paul here. Poor guy didn't deserve what you fucks did to him. I know it all. I knew about the party, an' when you drove off on your own I knew things were goin' my way. No brother or friend to protect you now. Revenge is gonna' be sweet my man. Like candy.

Paul ties Dole to a chair. Russ walks up to Dole an' puts the gun to his head.

RUSS

You don't know how bad I jus' wanna' pull this piece a' metal back. Hear the hammer snap an' without blinking that wall'd be painted red and grey. Some teeth on it, some a' that dirty blonde hair a' yours. It's so tempting. But...

Russ walks into the kitchen. He hands the gun to paul. Russ opens a drawer in the kitchen and pulls out a large butcher knife.

RUSS

Not nearly as much fun as what I'm gonna' do.

18H CUT TO: INT. APARTMENT - NIGHT

Spencer's on the phone in the kitchen.

SPENCER

He was driving a grey Buick, eighty three. Okay thanks for checkin'.

Spencer hangs up the phone. Lisa, Marissa, and Mitch stand in the living room.

LISA

So?

SPENCER

They're gonna' keep a lookout. Fuck man, should I wake up Donovan, go look for him?

MARISSA

Give 'em atleast fifteen minutes.

18I INT. BEDROOM - NIGHT

Donovan and Terri make out and hold eachother on the bed.

19D CUT TO: INT. - DENISE'S APARTMENT - NIGHT

Russ stands above Dole looking at the butcher knife.

RUSS

So where should I start? So many choices. I could do a Mr. Blonde an' cut your ear off. I could cut your tongue out so you can't speak. Take an eye, a finger...

DENISE

Do not do any of that, please! Please jus' leave him alone!

Russ looks over at Denise.

RUSS

I got it! Paul my friend, please, please... take the barrell of my gun and push it up against that bitch's temple.

Paul does so. He pushes the gun to Denise's head.

DENISE

Don't shoot me Paul. You know you can't.

PAUL

Don't tell me that! You bitch! You have no idea what I'm capable of.

Denise is terrified. She clenches her jaw as a tear drops down her cheek.

RUSS

We're gonna' play with some a' your piggies Dole. Here's the situation... I gotta' big fuckin' knife here, see?

He shows it to Dole.

RUSS

An' Paul over there's got the power to splatter that bitch's head across the apartment. You're gonna' stay still. No kickin' me. No fuckin' screamin'! Jus' sit there an' take it unless you wanna' see Denise over there with half a face.

Russ unties Dole's right shoe. He puts the blade to Dole's pinky toe.

RUSS

This little piggy went to market.

19E/18J CUT TO: M.O.S. Russ starts cutting off Dole's toes. Camera focuses on their faces rather than the cutting. Meanwhile, Donovan continues his beautiful moment with Terri.

RUSS

This little piggy stayed home.

18K INT. BEDROOM NIGHT

TERRI

I love you Donovan.

DONOVAN

What?

TERRI

You heard me.

Donovan looks at Terri.

19F INT. APARTMENT - NIGHT

RUSS

This little piggy had roast beef.

Dole sweats and tries his hardest not to scream.

RUSS

This little piggy had none.

18L INT. BEDROOM - NIGHT

Someone knocks on the door to Donovan's bedroom.

DONOVAN

What's up?

We hear Spencer.

SPENCER

Hey Donnie, why don't you come on out here a sec?

DONOVAN

What's goin' on man?

SPENCER

Step on out here a sec partner.

DONOVAN

I'll be back babe. I love you too.

Donovan puts his shirt on and walks out.

18M INT. LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

Spencer stands at the door. Marissa, Lisa and Mitch sit at the kitchen table.

SPENCER

It's your bro Don. Motherfucker's been gone an hour and a half.

DONOVAN

He has?

SPENCER

Goin' on two now. It 'aint like Dole to jus' take off like that, an' safe to say we've had a fucked up coupla' weeks. Not to be too motherly here, but I think it might be a good idea to go out there an' see what's goin' on tonight.

Donovan looks at Spencer. He walks to his bedroom.

18N INT. BEDROOM - NIGHT

Donovan peeks his head in the door.

DONOVAN

I hate to do this babe, but I think I gotta' go look for my brother.

TERRI

Dole's not back yet?

DONOVAN

No. I'll stay local an' look for the car. I'll be back soon.

He kisses her. Donovan walks out.

18O INT. LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

Donovan walks up to Spencer.

DONOVAN

Alright then let's go.

SPENCER

We'll be back y'all.

Donovan and Spencer walk out the front door.

18P EXT. HOUSE - NIGHT

DONOVAN

Any ideas?

SPENCER

Pete's, some a' the bars.

DONOVAN

We'll just start drivin'.

Donovan and Spencer get in.

19G CUT TO: INT. APARTMENT - NIGHT

RUSS

Since I'm such a nice guy, I'll leave you the big one. It hurts I bet. A lot a' blood around here. You did good though there Dole. Bitch's still got her face. Sure you 'aint got much of a foot left... oh well.

Russ unties Dole's other shoe.

19H CUT TO: INT. CAR (MOVING) - NIGHT

SPENCER

Any other ideas?

Donovan sits still for a second.

DONOVAN

Wait a minute. That girl, there was something about the girl.

SPENCER

Which girl man? You want me to search my fuckin' memory banks?

DONOVAN

C'mon man, remember the girl, the one that got punched in the face? We gave her fella' a tattoo?

SPENCER

Sure, can't forget that.

DONOVAN

Dole was in there talkin' to her. I know my brother Spence, he liked her. Said her name was Denise.

SPENCER

You think Dole woulda' gone to her place?

DONOVAN

Fuck, it's worth a shot isn't it?

19I CUT TO: INT. APARTMENT - NIGHT

PAUL

Russ man, I gotta' take a leak.

RUSS

Are you fuckin' kiddin' me?

PAUL

Are you sayin' I'm supposed to hold it?

RUSS

Yeah piss your fuckin' pants man. No, gimme' the damn gun an' go get it outta' your system.

Pual hands Russ the gun. He points it at Dole as Paul walks to the bathroom.

RUSS

I have to say, I had a lotta' fun doin' that Dole. I mean, I know you're pretty sad, losin' your toes an' all, but you can atleast take comfort in the fact that I was havin' a good time.

DENISE

You need some serious help.

RUSS

Sassy girl. You think I need a psychiatrist huh? Tell me how to fix my fucked up life? You know how people like me get to be where I am? One fuckin' bad experience after another's how. Give up on life. Say God's fucked me over so many goddamn times, 'bout time I passed it along to some other folks. Matter a fact, you ever been raped? Had a guy stick his dick in you you never wanted there? I'll tell you what happens.

Russ brushes the gun across Denise's face.

RUSS

First you're all dry, like toast with peanut butter on it. Then before you know it you hot. I'm goin' to town on you an' your gettin' all wet in due time. Know why? 'Cause deep down a dick's just a dick. Once it starts doin' it's job, you'll want me like I was Elvis.

DENISE

No fuckin' way.

RUSS

Oh? So you wanna' test my theory then?

The toilet flushes. Paul walks out of the bathroom.

RUSS

Good. Glad you had some release. Now take this fuckin' gun an' don't pull it off this bitch's temple. Dole, my bloody buddy, you ready for round two?

Dole looks at Russ.

19J CUT TO: INT. CAR (STOPPED) - NIGHT

Donovan and Spencer pull up outside Denise's apartment.

SPENCER

There it is man. Motherfucker came here after all.

DONOVAN

I had a feelin'.

SPENCER

So shall we go bang on the door, see what's up?

DONOVAN

Don't know man, he could be havin' a good time in there.

19K CUT TO: INT. APARTMENT - NIGHT

Russ unties Dole's left shoe.

RUSS

Now, same rules apply. No screaming, no kicking or that bitch is gonna' be missing a very important piece of her head.

19L INT. CAR - NIGHT

SPENCER

I say we go in. I'm sick a' this shit. Your bro gonna' go mix it up with a chick he shoulda' told us. Motherfucker deserves to be interrupted.

DONOVAN

I'll tell you what. Remember ding dong ditch?

SPENCER

Fuck yeah man, that was some good times.

DONOVAN

So let's go. We'll ring the doorbell an' jump behind those shrubs in front. Dole'll get outta' bed or wherever the fuck he is, check out the door. Second time we ding it we can stand there an' say, where the fuck you been bro?

SPENCER

Sounds good man.

Donovan and Spencer get out of the car and walk to the apartment's front door.

SPENCER

Why don't you do the honors man.

Donovan looks at the doorbell. He pushes the button. Donovan and Spencer run to the shrub and dive.

19M CUT TO: INT. APARTMENT - NIGHT

The doorbell rings. Russ looks at Denise.

RUSS

Fuck is that? Expectin' someone?

DENISE

Maybe it's the cops.

RUSS

Bet you'd like that. Okay you two. Stay the fuck quiet 'til whoever this is goes away.

19N CUT TO: EXT. APARTMENT - NIGHT

Donovan and Spencer crouch beneath the apartment's main large window. The curtains are mostly closed. Shrubs block Donovan and Spencer from the door.

DONOVAN

Jesus man, what's takin' so long?

SPENCER

Maybe they took off in her car somewhere, 'aint even here.

DONOVAN

Peek in there man, see if you can see anything.

Spencer peeks in the window. There's a sliver of space between the two beige curtains. Spencer can barely see Russ holding the knife, looking out the front door's peephole. He can see Paul holding the gun to Denise's head.

SPENCER

Holy fuck, Don. It's that first guy, the one I used as a toilet. He and the guy we gave the tattoo to are in there an' it don't look too good.

DONOVAN

Where's my brother?

SPENCER

I don't see him. Fuckin' guy's got a blade drippin' with blood though. An' Paul, he's holdin'a gun on the girl.

DONOVAN

If they laid a fuckin' hand on Dole they're both dead.

19O CUT TO: INT. APARTMENT - NIGHT

Russ walks up to Dole. Dole sweats and pants. A tear drops down his cheek.

RUSS

Now where were we? Oh, I remember, I was movin' on to your other foot wasn't I? Maybe I should hold that thought. You 'aint a bad lookin' chap Dole, you know it? I could fix that for you. Could take a nice piece a' your nose off. Make it real tough for you to find a girlfriend. Bet this bitch here wouldn't fuck you if I disfigured your ass. Decisions decisions.

19P EXT. APARTMENT - NIGHT

Donovan and Spencer crouch beneath the window.

DONOVAN

We need to think a' somethin' Spence, 'fore they hurt Dole or Denise. Hopin' they haven't already.

SPENCER

Well Paul's the one with the gun. We gotta' get to him first.

DONOVAN

Maybe there's a way around back. A bathroom window or somethin'.

SPENCER

Let's go check man.

Donovan and Spencer stand up. They make their way around back. There's a small bathroom window that's cracked open.

SPENCER

You fit in there?

DONOVAN

Definitely.

Donovan looks into the bathroom. The bathroom's door is almost totally closed. Hairspray, lipstick, and lotion stand next to the sink. The bathroom is clean and very feminine.

DONOVAN

We gotta' get this screen off. Quietly.

Spencer and Donovan tug on the screen until it pops loose. They lower it to the ground outside. Donovan tries to push the window open more but it only moves an inch or two.

SPENCER

Hop in there bro, I'll be right behind you.

Donovan lifts himself up and crawls through the window. He lowers himself to the bathroom floor.

19Q INT. APARTMENT - NIGHT

DENISE

Please don't do anything else to him. Look at him, he could die.

RUSS

Like I give a fuck. It's kinda' my idea. Torture an' a slow death. What's waitin' for you.

PAUL

I thought you said we were gonna' take her with us.

RUSS

We'll load a coupla' corpses in the trunk, yeah. Fuckin' dump 'em in Russian River.

PAUL

Look, I want back at these guys like you, but I don't know about killin' her. I mean, Denise, I still love you.

RUSS
